Today they announced that in the spirit of the Olympics there would be two new items made avalable, one is th Spirit of Competition tabard and the other is a Gold Medallion that summons a small flying dragon as a non-combat pet. I want that dragon!
So, foregoing my normal levelling guide I instead queued up for Alterac Valley, by far my favorite battleground, probably because the Alliance wins it a lot.
To obtain the tabard you just need to stay in a battleground until it closes, simple enough, and I got my tabard on the first Alterac Valley I played in, which we won! Not only did we win, but it was almost 40 Alliance to 10 Horde, so it was a total roll. At the end, the Horde hadn't taken any towers or bunkers, I've never been in an Alterac Valley that happened like that before.
To obtain the dragon you need to be in a battleground until the end and win it. Upon winning you have a very small chance of receiving a gold medallion in your mailbox.
It was totally a telling of what was to come, barring the 15 to 20 minute waits to queue into a battleground, Alliance rolled the Horde in every single one and I walked away with almost 2,000 honor and 15 Alterac Valley marks.
I also completed the quest to Kill Drek'thar which rewards you with the Ice-Barbed Spear, a weapon that will probably get me all the way to outlands because it is stacked with Agility and Stamina, much more than the simple "of the Monkey" sword I was using. At first I was torn over whether to get the Crossbow that is a reward, but in the end, went with the Spear.
Tomorrow I'll go back to do some levelling, but I plan to spend an equal amount of time in Alterac Valley trying to get my dragon.
